Carjacking Suspect Crashes Stolen Truck Into Playground in Philadelphia

A dramatic carjacking ended with a stolen utility vehicle crashing into a Philadelphia school playground packed with children, but thanks to a heroic crossing guard, no injuries were reported.

Robert Littlepage Jr., a man from Georgia, was arrested after he stole a truck left running and recklessly drove through a red light before smashing into the playground in southwest Philadelphia. Surveillance footage captured the suspect running the light and striking a Subaru prior to the crash.

Crossing Guard Pulls Children to Safety Amid Chaos

Neighborhood resident Tyrone Smalls described the scene as “a total wreck. It’s a total mess.” At least 10 children were in the immediate area during the crash.

School crossing guard Jamele Ransom narrated the harrowing moments as the truck plowed into the playground. “I’m right there in the Mercedes in the shade. ‘Bam!’ See that, didn’t know which way to go. Run over there, debris is falling. That crazy,” he said.

“I bobbed and weaved. I run in there. I pull the kid out under the monkey bar. I pull the kid up out of there.”

Ransom’s swift actions helped rescue at least two children trapped near the vehicle wreckage, preventing what could have been a devastating tragedy.
