Scott City Unleashes Devastating 12-0 Victory with Combined No-Hitter
Kaden Lowery dominated the mound as Scott City Rams handed the previously undefeated Chaffee Red Devils a staggering 12-0 loss on the road, throwing a combined no-hitter in a high-stakes Scott-Mississippi Conference showdown Wednesday, May 6.
In a game that instantly shifted the conference title picture, Lowery stifled Chaffee’s explosive offense through 5 2⁄3 innings, striking out seven and assisting on four outs at first base before reliever Braeden Walton closed out the historic no-hit effort. Scott City, carrying a single loss entering the game, erupted offensively with 12 runs fueled by three big innings of scoring in the 2nd, 5th, and 6th frames.
“Chaffee is a great team,” Scott City coach Skylar Cobb said. “They came in undefeated and beating teams handily, and we are too. We came prepared to battle.”
Early Resistance Meets Explosive Offense
Chaffee threatened early but could not capitalize, stranded runners despite a one-out single by Evan Boswell in their first at-bat. Lowery immediately responded on the mound, sharply limiting scoring chances with a perfect first inning and an emphatic bunt assist that ended threats. The Rams struck first in the second inning when Braeden Walton’s leadoff double scored on a Tyson Proctor single, igniting a three-run surge.
Christopher Graff’s double and Lane Miller’s single pushed the Rams’ total to 3-0 before Chaffee’s offense stalled. Despite a pair of balks allowing runners to second and third, Lowery kept cooling down the Red Devils, mixing strikeouts and defensive savvy to maintain the shutout.
Rams Amplify Lead with Ruthless Rally
The fifth inning marked the turning point, as Scott City unleashed a six-run outburst aided by a passed ball and an error that drove in two quick runs. Walton, Jackson Gloth, and Graff fueled the furious rally with key hits, while the batter hit by a pitch and Miller’s hustle-driven infield single added runs to the blowout.
Scott City extended the advantage to 12-0 in the sixth with Walton launching his longest single of the season to drive in Leyton Hanback, followed by a wild pitch and groundout that scored two more. The Rams’ relentless offense combined with Lowery’s pitching prowess sealed one of the most dominant conference victories this season.
Lowery’s Mastery Sparks No-Hitter, Historic Win
Lowery’s stat line was exceptional: 5 2⁄3 innings pitched, 7 strikeouts, 4 walks, and zero hits or runs. Walton capped the combined no-hit bid with a perfect one batter faced and a strikeout. Offensively, Boswell and Graff each hammered three hits with two RBIs apiece, while Miller added three RBIs from the top of the order. Hanback and Walton also contributed with timely hitting and walks.
Chaffee starter Jordan Essner absorbed the loss, giving up 11 hits and 9 runs over 4 2⁄3 innings. The Red Devils also committed three costly errors. Relief pitcher Nolan Fowler struggled in relief, allowing three runs, including two earned.
What’s Next in the Conference Race?
Scott City will look to build on this momentum Friday as they host Notre Dame, while Chaffee faces Sikeston in a special Harmon Field centennial celebration game. This showdown marks a seismic shift in the Scott-Mississippi Conference championship race, as one dominant team’s unbeaten run ended with a sudden and emphatic statement from the Rams.
Scott City’s stunning combined no-hitter over the undefeated Chaffee Red Devils is a timely reminder that in high school baseball, no streak is safe, and championship ambitions are alive and fiercely contested.
