Maurepas Softball Dominates Hackberry 10-2 to Reach Sulphur Semifinals

The Maurepas Lady Wolves executed a commanding performance on the road to defeat third-seeded Hackberry with a decisive 10-2 victory in the Class C quarterfinal round on April 24. This win secures Maurepas a spot in the semifinals scheduled for May 1 in Sulphur, setting the stage for an intense showdown against second-seeded Claiborne Christian at 2:30 p.m.

The Lady Wolves wasted no time establishing dominance, surging to a quick 5-1 lead after just two innings. They extended their advantage to 6-1 in the third inning before a late rally from Hackberry trimmed the margin to 6-2. However, Maurepas responded with additional runs in the fourth and an explosive three-run push in the seventh inning, sealing the commanding win.

Coach Gabrielle Varnado voiced pride in her team’s relentless effort, highlighting the significance of reaching the Louisiana state tournament for the first time as a coaching milestone. “I’m super proud of our girls! Having experienced the Louisiana state tournament as an athlete myself, I’m ready to see them as a coach experience this for their first time,” Varnado said. “They’ve worked hard all season and they deserve to be there!”

Offensively, key players turned in impressive performances. Layla Robinson went 2-for-4 with three runs scored and an RBI, while Saydie Sterling contributed two hits including a double, driving in a run and crossing home plate. Khloe Luquette smashed a home run, accumulating two RBIs and scoring herself during her two-hit day. Gabby Bell added two hits and a run scored, and teammates Heydi Quamme, Kayden Delatte, and Sidney Lauzervich each contributed multiple hits, runs scored, or RBIs to maintain offensive pressure.
