CMCS Dominates LQPV 104-25, Advances to Section 3A Semifinals

UPDATE: In a stunning display of dominance, the Central Minnesota Christian School (CMCS) boys basketball team crushed Lac qui Parle Valley (LQPV) 104-25 in the Section 3A-North playoffs held at Montevideo High School on March 11, 2023. This overwhelming victory propels CMCS, now boasting a record of 26-1, into the semifinals where they will face Renville County West on Tuesday, March 12, at 5:45 p.m.

Head coach Ted Taatjes had concerns leading into the match, fearing his top-seeded team might underestimate their eighth-seeded opponents. Despite a rocky start, including a technical foul for dunking during warmups, CMCS quickly regained control, scoring 15 consecutive points after an early LQPV free throw.

“It’s a Saturday morning game and everyone can be a little sluggish,” Taatjes commented. “But they definitely had our attention.” The Bluejays answered the coach’s worries by launching a relentless offensive and defensive strategy, resulting in a staggering 35-4 lead at one point.

Asher Wieberdink shone brightly, leading the Bluejays with 22 points, including two dunks, while Caleb Asake contributed 20 points. Other significant contributions came from Chase and Landon Taatjes with 15 points each, and Logan Roelofs with 12 points.

The victory not only highlights CMCS’s powerful performance but also sets up an exciting semifinal matchup against Renville County West, who recently defeated MACCRAY 76-58. Taatjes expressed optimism about the upcoming game, noting the tight schedule provides an opportunity for focused preparation.

In other Section 3A-North playoff action, Dawson-Boyd triumphed over Yellow Medicine East (YME) 75-50, and Wabasso defeated Minneota 81-60. The championship game is slated for 5 p.m. Thursday, March 12, at Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall, with hopes of securing a state berth.

As the playoffs intensify, CMCS’s commanding win serves as a stark reminder of their capabilities on the court. Fans are eagerly awaiting the upcoming match, while Taatjes looks forward to refining their strategy in preparation for Renville County West.
