UPDATE: The community of Galway is mourning the loss of Ruth E. Gerardi, who passed away at the age of 100 on November 9, 2025. Ruth was a beloved figure known for her decades of service to the community and her deep commitment to local organizations.
Born on December 2, 1924, in Green Island, New York, Ruth dedicated much of her life to enriching the lives of others. She worked for Trustco Bank in Schenectady for many years before becoming a devoted member of the Galway United Methodist Church in 1948. There, she served as an officer, participated in the choir, and organized numerous fundraisers that benefited the church and the community.
Ruth’s influence extended to various organizations. She was a charter member of the Galway Lioness, an active participant in the Galway Women’s Club, and held a position on the Saratoga County Aging Advisory Council. Her dedication to serving seniors and improving community resources was greatly admired.
Ruth was also known for her love of knitting and traveling with her family, creating cherished memories that will last for generations. She is survived by her daughter Sharyn Kalinkewicz (Gary), Goddaughter Pam Neahr (Dave), along with numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, November 12, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Armer Funeral Home, Inc., located at 39 East High Street, Ballston Spa. The funeral service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday, November 13, at the Galway United Methodist Church, 2056 East Street, Galway. Following the service, Ruth will be laid to rest in the Galway Village Cemetery.
