BREAKING NEWS: Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) has just announced its plans to fully acquire Tennova Healthcare-Clarksville from Community Health Systems Inc. (CHS). This acquisition will enhance VUMC’s capacity to deliver critical healthcare services to the rapidly growing community of Clarksville, Tennessee.
VUMC has held a 20% minority interest in the 270-bed facility since 2021. The transition to full ownership will enable VUMC to expand its network of regional medical centers, reinforcing its commitment to high-quality and accessible care in the surrounding area. “Expanding our services in Clarksville allows us to better serve the healthcare needs of this rapidly growing area,” said Jeff Balser, MD, PhD, President and CEO of VUMC.
This acquisition is vital as Clarksville is now home to over 200,000 residents and has experienced a remarkable 24% population growth over the past decade. The hospital has already established key services during its partnership with VUMC, including an OB-GYN hospitalist program and radiation oncology services through the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center.
While the acquisition is pending regulatory review, VUMC assures that there will be no interruption in care for patients currently receiving services at Tennova Healthcare-Clarksville.
“Integrating the Clarksville hospital into our regional network is an exciting step forward,”
stated Jane Freedman, MD, Deputy Chief Executive Officer and Chief Health System Officer for VUMC.
VUMC’s acquisition reflects its strategy to provide care in community settings that are both effective and affordable. The hospital boasts numerous inpatient and outpatient services, and the community can expect to see an increase in both adult and pediatric healthcare offerings.
Furthermore, VUMC commits to retaining substantially all employees who are in good standing at Tennova Healthcare-Clarksville during the ownership transition. This dedication to local staff is crucial for maintaining continuity of care and community trust.
As VUMC expands its healthcare footprint in Middle Tennessee, the integration of Tennova Healthcare-Clarksville marks the fourth regional hospital acquisition for the institution. Residents in Montgomery County can look forward to enhanced medical services designed to meet their growing needs.
Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story, as VUMC works to finalize the acquisition and enhance healthcare access in the region.
