Urgent Fire Contained in Longmont After Burning 2.7 Acres

UPDATE: A brush fire that ignited southwest of Longmont has been successfully contained after burning approximately 2.7 acres. Firefighters responded to the scene just before 4 p.m. on July 12, 2023, near the intersection of North 75th Street and Nelson Road, according to Hygiene Fire Marshall Travis Homyak.

The fire, which posed a significant threat to nearby areas, was fully contained by 5:11 p.m.. Fortunately, Homyak noted, “it was lucky that it wasn’t windy,” helping crews manage the blaze effectively. Firefighters from multiple agencies, including the Lefthand Fire Protection District, Lyons Fire Protection District, Mountain View Fire Rescue, and the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office wildland team, worked collaboratively to bring the fire under control.

Authorities are investigating the cause of this fire, and crews will continue to monitor the area throughout the night and into Thursday to ensure no flare-ups occur.

This incident follows another fire reported around the same time, which damaged an outbuilding near Flagstaff Road close to Boulder.

Residents are advised to remain vigilant as conditions can change rapidly. Updates will follow as more information becomes available.
