San Jose Bulldogs Dominate Prospect 46-9, Eyes CCS Playoffs

UPDATE: The San Jose High Bulldogs delivered a stunning performance against the Prospect High Panthers, winning decisively 46-9 on October 24, 2025. This victory not only boosts their playoff aspirations but also cements their dominance in the Blossom Valley Athletic League.

This game marked a critical turning point for the Bulldogs, who executed a powerful ground game, rushing for a remarkable 350 yards on 52 carries. Just moments into the game, San Jose recovered an onside kick and scored on a 56-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Cypress Funes to Omar Gomez, igniting an explosive start.

The Bulldogs, now boasting a record of 5-3, 4-1, are poised to make history. With the traditional Thanksgiving matchup against Lincoln already completed earlier this season, San Jose can secure a Central Coast Section (CCS) playoff berth by winning their final two games against Evergreen Valley and Mt. Pleasant.

“We are senior heavy,” said San Jose coach Raul Sandoval. “They realize it and want to go out with a bang. Hopefully, the next two weeks we come out with W’s and make history.”

After their initial touchdown, the Bulldogs opted for a two-point conversion, showcasing their bold strategy. Although Prospect briefly took the lead with a field goal and touchdown, San Jose swiftly regained control. Omar Gomez’s 9-yard touchdown run put the Bulldogs ahead for good, followed by another touchdown run from Eden Cortes, ending the half at 22-9.

In the second half, San Jose continued to dominate, scoring on successive drives. Bryan Cortes rushed for a 25-yard touchdown, followed by Roman Rodriguez with a 40-yard run, and Agustine Cortes capped the scoring with a 1-yard plunge.

Gomez, a standout player, led the team with 96 yards on 12 carries. “We know we have the upper hand when we get the ball into the running back’s hands,” said Gomez. “We have a lot of dogs who can run the ball.”

Prospect High entered the matchup with an unbeaten record, but struggled against San Jose’s relentless ground attack. Coach Jake Shaughnessy acknowledged the Bulldogs’ strength, stating, “They just get in that double wing and pound it down your throat. They play to their strength. What they did tonight is what we saw on film, what we prepared for all week. We just couldn’t execute because they’re really that good.”

As the Bulldogs celebrate this pivotal victory, all eyes will be on their upcoming games. A playoff spot is within reach, and the community is rallying behind a team eager to leave a lasting legacy.
