Glen Powell may be stepping into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as Michael Waldron has suggested he would be an excellent fit for the role of Nova. Waldron, known for his pivotal contributions to the MCU, including his work on the highly praised Disney+ series “Loki” and the screenplay for “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” shared his thoughts during an interview with The Playlist.
Powell, who gained significant attention for his performances in “Top Gun: Maverick” and “Twisters,” has been a subject of speculation regarding superhero roles in the past. Waldron’s endorsement of Powell as Richard Rider, the character known as Nova, follows Marvel’s long-standing hints about introducing Nova into the cinematic landscape. The Nova Corps was first teased in the original “Guardians of the Galaxy,” leading fans to anticipate a deeper exploration of this character.
Development Challenges for Nova Series
While the character has yet to make an on-screen appearance, Marvel Studios has been working on a “Nova” series for several years. The project, however, has faced significant delays and remains in what some describe as development hell. Currently, Ed Bernero is serving as the showrunner and writer for the series, but no official release date has been announced.
Powell’s potential involvement in the MCU adds an intriguing layer to his career. Previously, the actor has been rumored for various superhero roles, including Scott Summers, also known as Cyclops, in the Marvel franchise, as well as Booster Gold for DC. His upcoming film, directed by Edgar Wright, titled “The Running Man,” is set to release next month, further elevating his profile in Hollywood.
As Marvel continues to expand its universe, the introduction of characters like Nova seems inevitable. With Waldron’s backing, Powell could become a key player in the next phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, drawing on the rich history of the comics while captivating a new generation of fans.
