Homeowner Shoots Intruder Dead During Break-In Attempt in Somerset

BREAKING: A homeowner shot and killed an intruder during an alleged break-in at a residence in Somerset Township early Monday morning. The incident unfolded around 2 a.m. as Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) responded to reports of a disturbance on the 100 block of Locust Street.

Authorities confirm that the homeowner awoke to the sound of banging on his kitchen window and discovered a male intruder attempting to break in. Tom Leiden, the County District Attorney, stated that the intruder had already broken a window and was warned by the homeowner that he was armed. The situation escalated rapidly, leading the homeowner to fire a single shot, striking the intruder in the head.

The intruder’s body was later found by responding troopers near the back door of the home. Following the shooting, the homeowner was briefly detained, but preliminary investigations suggest he acted in self-defense. As of now, no charges have been filed, and Leiden has assured the public there is no ongoing threat to the community.

Residents are shaken by the incident. Nearby neighbor JD Ross expressed his fear, stating, “Scary, that’s my reaction. This is a nice neighborhood. We raised our kids here.” The investigation is still ongoing, and police have not yet released the identity of the intruder pending notification of next-of-kin.

Authorities emphasize that several individuals have been interviewed as part of the investigation, but they are not currently seeking any additional suspects. The community remains on edge, closely monitoring developments in this shocking event.
