URGENT UPDATE: A person of interest in a Richmond homicide attempted to take his own life at the San Pablo Police Department parking lot on Tuesday. This shocking incident occurred shortly after 6:00 p.m. local time, triggering immediate police action and a joint press conference from both the Richmond and San Pablo police departments.
According to authorities, officers heard a single gunshot from within the parking lot. San Pablo Police Capt. James Laughter reported, “We then located a male subject lying on the ground with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.” The individual was swiftly transported to a nearby hospital and is currently listed in critical condition.
This incident follows a deadly shooting that took place just before 1:45 p.m. on Monday at an IHOP located in the 3400 block of Klose Way. The victim, who was an acquaintance of the person of interest, died from a gunshot wound at the scene. Initially, coworkers believed the victim was injured in an accident, but firefighters deemed the injuries suspicious and alerted law enforcement.
Prior to the suicide attempt, the person of interest approached officers at the police station but walked away due to a language barrier, according to reports. The circumstances surrounding both the homicide and the attempted suicide raise serious concerns.
Authorities have yet to disclose additional details regarding the shooting in Richmond, but the situation remains under investigation. The community is left in shock as both police departments work to piece together the events leading to these tragic incidents.
