UPDATE: Chevrolet has just announced exciting plans for the 2027 model year, unveiling new vehicles manufactured in the United States. This comes as the automotive giant aims to solidify its presence in the American market, with the iconic Chevrolet Silverado leading the charge.
The Chevrolet Silverado, a top contender in sales, remains a significant part of Chevy’s production lineup, with all models, including the light-duty 1500 and heavy-duty 2500/3500, built in the U.S. However, some models are also constructed in Mexico and Canada, so consumers are encouraged to check window stickers for specific details.
Additionally, the full-size Suburban and Tahoe SUVs, both derived from the Silverado’s robust frame, are manufactured in Arlington, Texas. The three-row Traverse SUV is crafted in Lansing, Michigan, while the Chevrolet Corvette continues to be built in Bowling Green, Kentucky, turning the area into a premier destination for car enthusiasts.
In a bold move, Chevy plans to introduce at least two new American-made vehicles for the 2027 lineup. The Chevrolet Bolt, designed to be the most affordable electric vehicle on the market, is already in production at a GM facility in Kansas City. A new gas-powered Chevrolet Blazer is also set to roll out of a Tennessee plant that same year.
The production of the Silverado is primarily handled at GM’s Fort Wayne Assembly in Indiana for the light-duty models, while heavy-duty variants come from Flint Assembly in Michigan. However, recent reports indicate that Chevy may be shifting some production back to the U.S. from its Oshawa, Ontario plant, influenced by changing tariffs.
The Silverado EV is also facing uncertainty; even after a substantial investment of $2.2 billion to transform its Michigan facility, General Motors has paused operations at the Factory Zero site, leading to indefinite layoffs. This raises questions about the future of GM’s electric truck lineup, especially in light of Ford’s recent cancellation of the F-150 Lightning.
Chevrolet’s Suburban and Tahoe are both recognized for their spaciousness, with the Tahoe starting at $62,095 and the Suburban at $65,095. Meanwhile, the Traverse offers a more budget-friendly option, priced over $20,000 less than its larger counterparts.
The Chevrolet Colorado and Express vans are produced at the Wentzville Assembly Center in Missouri, a facility known for its extensive history and production capabilities since the mid-1990s. The Colorado has won multiple accolades for its performance and design, most recently being named Motor Trend Truck of the Year for 2024.
Chevy’s Bolt EV is set for a comeback in 2027, shifting production to respond to changing market demands. With a starting price of only $28,995, the Bolt aims to revive interest in electric vehicles amidst a current sales slump.
