Experience Rochester and the Mayo Civic Center are spearheading a food donation drive titled “Give What You Can. Help Feed Our Community,” set to run from December 5 to December 16, 2023. This initiative aims to support the Community Food Response and address hunger in the Rochester area.
The food drive encourages guests, event attendees, and all community members to contribute nonperishable food items and essential household supplies. Donations will directly assist the Community Food Response, a volunteer-driven organization that provides immediate food support to individuals and families throughout the region.
Community Involvement and Need
“Every donation, big or small, makes a difference,” stated Joe Ward, president of Experience Rochester and the Mayo Civic Center. “Rochester’s giving spirit shines brightest during times of need. This food drive is a meaningful way for our community to come together and ensure everyone has access to nutritious food and basic necessities. We’re proud to partner with Community Food Response to support our neighbors.”
To participate, individuals can drop off items at the Mayo Civic Center guest relations desk located on the second-floor skyway level. The collection will be available from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays during the drive.
High-Demand Items for Donation
The food drive has identified several high-need items that community members are encouraged to donate. These include:
- Canned proteins such as tuna, chicken, and beans
- Peanut butter
- Pasta and rice
- Canned fruits and vegetables
- Cereal and oatmeal
- Seasonal items like stuffing and gravy packets
- Personal care items including toothpaste, soap, and hygiene products
As hunger continues to be a pressing issue for many families in Rochester, initiatives like this food drive highlight the importance of community support. The collaboration between Experience Rochester, the Mayo Civic Center, and Community Food Response showcases the collective effort to address local needs and foster a spirit of giving.
