IPR.VC Elevates Andrea Scarso to Managing Partner Amid Leadership Shift

European content investment firm IPR.VC, a key backer of the upcoming film Marty Supreme starring Timothée Chalamet, has announced significant leadership changes aimed at enhancing its international investment strategy. On Thursday, the company promoted Andrea Scarso to managing partner. Scarso, who joined IPR.VC in 2023 as a partner and investment director, oversees the firm’s operations in the United Kingdom.

In a notable transition, founder and long-serving managing partner Timo Argillander will assume the newly defined role of executive chairman. In this capacity, he will focus on long-term growth and portfolio development. Additionally, Joonas Pönniö, the group chief financial officer, has been appointed as chief operating officer, taking charge of Luxembourg fund structures, operational processes, and reporting.

Another prominent figure in this leadership reshuffle is Tanu-Matti Tuominen, the founding partner and current board chairman, who will continue to serve on the board while managing investor relations, marketing, and communications, as well as chairing the investment committee.

These changes come on the heels of a busy year for the Helsinki- and London-based fund manager, which has successfully raised capital through three funds. Its most recent fund closed at €104 million ($121 million), underscoring its growing influence in the film and television investment landscape. IPR.VC has financed over 60 film and television projects through collaborations with notable U.S. and European producers and studios, including A24, XYZ Films, mk2 films, and Red Bull Studios.

The firm aims to deepen relationships with existing backers and expand its institutional investor base to increase assets under management. Among its investments is the highly anticipated Marty Supreme, for which Scarso and Argillander serve as executive producers. This film is part of a broader alliance with A24, which has also seen investments in projects like Materialists and Ari Aster’s Eddington.

Looking ahead, IPR.VC’s 2025 slate includes a diverse set of titles such as Hallow Road, Ash, Get Away, and Mile End Kicks from XYZ Films, as well as Gentle Monster, Deli Love, and Love Is Not The Answer from mk2 films. The company is also expanding its development pipeline through IPR LAB, a research and development division launched in 2024 to identify investment opportunities across film, television, and emerging content models. The first projects from this initiative are expected to be announced later this year.

Founded in 2014, IPR.VC operates as an alternative investment fund manager regulated by the Finnish Financial Supervisory Authority. In early 2025, the European Investment Fund committed €25 million ($29 million) to the firm’s latest fund, further solidifying its position as the largest independent film and television investment fund manager in Europe. The firm’s strategic appointments and ambitious plans signal a robust future in the competitive landscape of content investment.
