BREAKING: The University of Wisconsin-Superior (UWS) has clinched impressive victories in both men’s soccer and cross country, securing conference championships and solidifying their dominance in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC).
In a stunning performance on Saturday, October 7, 2023, UWS men’s soccer crushed Martin Luther with an overwhelming 8-0 victory at Superior Choice Credit Union Stadium. The Yellowjackets wasted no time, scoring four goals within the first 18 minutes, including two from standout Bryce Boldt. The team’s remarkable season culminates in their eighth consecutive UMAC title, already secured after a 4-0 win against Bethany Lutheran just a day earlier.
UWS’s dominance was clear as they quickly took the lead in the final match. Jake Kidd ignited the scoreboard just two minutes into the game, followed by goals from Jacob Wyles and Kidd again before the four-minute mark. The Yellowjackets showed no mercy, with Seth Davidson sealing the game with an insurance goal in the second half.
Following their undefeated season, UWS (14-6, 12-0 UMAC) will host fourth-place Crown in a tournament semifinal on Wednesday at 5 PM in Superior. This game is crucial as they aim to continue their championship legacy.
Meanwhile, the UWS women’s soccer team faced a setback, ending their four-year reign as UMAC champions after finishing third in the standings. A 2-1 loss to Bethany Lutheran on Friday proved pivotal. Despite a significant advantage in shots (20-9), the Yellowjackets couldn’t score until the 89th minute, leaving them with a disappointing end to their season.
In cross country, UWS maintained its historic prowess, winning the men’s championship with a collective sweep of the top four positions at the league meet held in Winthrop, Minnesota. Dylan Uitto led the Yellowjackets with a personal best time of 26:18.1 over the 8-kilometer course, contributing to UWS’s fifth consecutive UMAC title. The women’s team finished fourth, with a notable performance from Lilley Smith in 18th place.
As UWS continues its athletic accolades, the men’s hockey team opened their season with a commanding 7-0 victory against Marian, showcasing their potential with a strong roster. They will face Gustavus Adolphus on October 7 and St. Olaf the following day.
Stay tuned for further updates as UWS aims to build on this momentum in the upcoming tournament matches, with fans eagerly supporting their teams to carry this championship spirit forward.
