UPDATE: Two people were dramatically rescued from a plane crash in Salem County, New Jersey, earlier today, November 4, 2023. The incident occurred around 11:20 AM when a small private aircraft went down near the Rainbow’s End Farm and Airport in Mannington Township, off Route 540.
Rescue teams were quickly dispatched to the scene following reports of the downed plane. Utilizing advanced drone technology, responders located the wreckage partially submerged in a creek feeding into the Salem River.
Emergency helicopters from the New Jersey State Police and the Delaware State Police were deployed for the rescue operation. At approximately 1:30 PM, the Delaware State Police successfully hoisted both the pilot and the passenger from the crash site using a specialized helicopter hoist system. The two individuals had become trapped in mud surrounding the wreckage, complicating the rescue efforts.
The Delaware State Police Aviation Section shared on Facebook, stating, “Behind every rescue is a team trained to perform under pressure. Today, our team worked with the Delaware Air Rescue Team to save lives after a plane crash in New Jersey.” One of the rescued individuals was airlifted to Christiana Hospital in Delaware. Details regarding their conditions have not yet been released.
