TJC Coach Tanner Jacobson Resigns for FCS Coordinator Role

BREAKING NEWS: Tanner Jacobson, the highly successful head coach of Tyler Junior College’s football team, has resigned to accept a coordinator position at an FCS school, he confirmed to the Tyler Morning Telegraph earlier today. The announcement of his new role is expected on Monday.

Jacobson’s departure marks a significant change for the Apaches, who flourished under his leadership. Over the past four years, he transformed the team into a national contender, leading them to an impressive 11-1 record in 2025, the best in the program’s 65-year history. His tenure included back-to-back Southwest Junior College Football Conference titles and an undefeated season, culminating in a spot in the NJCAA national semifinals.

The former Southlake Carroll standout, who began his coaching career after playing at Texas Tech University and BYU, expressed deep gratitude to TJC and the Tyler community in a heartfelt statement on X, formerly known as Twitter. He thanked the Rose City for embracing him and his family, including his wife Beth and their young daughter Halle, who was born during his time in Tyler.

“Tyler Junior College will always be a part of who I am,” Jacobson stated, emphasizing the emotional impact of his time at the college.

Under Jacobson’s guidance, the Apaches also achieved academic success, recording the highest GPA in program history. His overall record at TJC stands at 28-13, showcasing his ability to build a competitive and disciplined team.

Jacobson’s coaching journey began shortly after graduation when he joined BYU’s staff, contributing to two bowl appearances before moving to Snow College. His coaching accomplishments included guiding the Badgers to the NJCAA National Championship game and coaching the 2021 NJCAA Defensive Player of the Year, Keionte Scott, who later signed with Auburn University.

As Jacobson prepares for this new chapter, TJC faces the challenge of finding a successor capable of continuing the momentum he created. The coaching community is eager to see who will step into this pivotal role at a time when the program is thriving.

Stay tuned for updates on Jacobson’s next move and TJC’s search for a new head coach as this story develops.
