Staten Island High School Basketball: Albano and Rebracca Shine in Key Wins

URGENT UPDATE: In a thrilling day of high school basketball on January 6, 2024, Staten Island’s Chris Albano and Nick Rebracca delivered standout performances, leading their teams to significant victories amid intense competition.

Albano, of Susan Wagner High School, scored a game-high 24 points, including nine in the final quarter, propelling the Falcons to a 63-55 come-from-behind win against New Dorp High School in Sea View. With this victory, Susan Wagner improved to an impressive 10-2 overall record.

The game was tightly contested, with New Dorp leading at the end of each quarter until the Falcons surged ahead. Coach Danny Lanigan praised his team’s resilience, stating,

“As happy as we are to end the first half of our schedule with a solid 10-2 record, we know there are elements of our game that we really need to clean up.”

In another key matchup, junior Nick Rebracca of Sea High School matched his career high by scoring 28 points as the Vikings defeated Salesian High School 73-52. Rebracca’s performance included a season-high of six three-pointers, showcasing his offensive prowess and helping Sea improve to 6-2 overall in league play.

The Vikings established an early lead, dominating the first quarter with a score of 19-4, thanks in part to Rebracca’s eight points. Coach Brian McCarthy highlighted the team’s strong defense and ability to capitalize on scoring opportunities.

Further afield, in Pittsburgh, St. Peter’s High School fell to Taylor Allderdice 52-45, struggling to recover from an early deficit despite a strong fourth-quarter push led by senior Nico Parlanti, who scored 17 points.

In another local game, WHEELS High School secured a 61-43 victory over Eagle Academy SI. The Wolves pulled away in the second half, demonstrating their defensive strength and teamwork.
