UPDATE: A man arrested for breaking into the home of actress Nana has made shocking claims of innocence in a letter sent from prison. The 30-year-old suspect, identified only as A, was apprehended in November 2022 after allegedly committing an armed robbery at Nana’s home in Guri, Gyeonggi Province.
In a letter addressed to JTBC’s Crime Chief, A denied any premeditation, asserting, “I only intended to commit theft and did not prepare any weapons in advance.” He claimed to have entered the property wearing gloves and a headset, portraying himself as a victim after being injured during a struggle with Nana. His reasoning for the break-in? To raise funds for his mother’s hospital bills.
A’s letter contains serious allegations, including claims that Nana’s side offered him ₩40 million KRW (approximately $27,700 USD) to assert that he entered the home armed. He stated, “I initially agreed to this but later wrote the letter to reveal the truth.” This assertion raises eyebrows, particularly as he has now filed a countersuit against Nana for attempted murder and aggravated assault.
However, these claims stand in stark contrast to police findings. Authorities reported that A used a ladder to access the home and threatened Nana’s mother by choking her, endangering her life. When alerted by her mother’s screams, Nana intervened, resulting in A sustaining a laceration to his chin during the confrontation.
Police confirmed shortly after the incident that Nana and her mother’s actions were considered legitimate self-defense. “There was a clear invasion of the victims’ rights, and there is no indication that excessive force was used against the perpetrator during the defense,” they stated.
Nana’s agency has firmly rejected A’s allegations, claiming, “The claims regarding hospital bills, monetary proposals, or any weapons-related agreements are entirely false.” They further stated that A attempted to persuade them not to involve law enforcement. The agency announced they would pursue all possible civil and criminal actions against A, labeling his countersuit as an exploitative tactic aimed at leveraging Nana’s celebrity status.
Experts speculate that A’s countersuit and prison letter may be strategic moves to reduce his sentence or provoke debate over the legitimacy of self-defense. Despite the police’s previous conclusions, they will review the case according to legal protocols due to the new complaint filed.
As this story develops, Nana has expressed her feelings on social media, sharing an emotional message with her fans. Her response reflects the intense scrutiny and emotional toll this situation has placed on her and her family.
Stay tuned for further updates on this evolving situation, as both legal and public reactions continue to unfold.
