URGENT UPDATE: Joyce E. Levan, aged 92, of Maxatawny Township, has passed away at her residence on November 3, 2025. The beloved matriarch and widow of Homer C. Levan, who died in December 2000, leaves behind a legacy of family and community engagement.
Joyce was born in Maxatawny Township to the late Clarence J. and Evelyn E. Hummel. A cherished member of Frieden’s Church in Lenhartsville, she dedicated her life to her family and community. Known for her hard work, Joyce operated sewing machines at local knitting mills in Leesport and Hamburg. Her love for gardening and her years managing her family’s snack bar, Hummel’s, in Lenhartsville, showcased her vibrant spirit and dedication.
She is survived by her four children: Barry L. Levan (husband of Robin Balthaser), Barbara J. Snyder (wife of Scott Snyder), Debra E. Turner (wife of Michael Turner), and Michael D. Levan (husband of Kris Krause). Joyce also leaves behind numerous grandchildren, including Olivia Deyser, Aaron Snyder, Kellsey Guell, Kirkland Turner, and six great-grandchildren, highlighting her role as a central figure in her family’s life.
Funeral services are set for Saturday, November 8, 2025, at 11:30 AM from Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc. located at 223 Peach Street, Leesport. A viewing will be held prior, from 10:00 to 11:30 AM, allowing friends and family to pay their respects. Burial will follow at Frieden’s Cemetery in Lenhartsville.
