URGENT UPDATE: John “Jack” Scirocco, a cherished educator and community figure, has passed away at the age of 84 on November 4, 2025, surrounded by his loving family in Scotia, NY. His death marks a profound loss for those who knew him and the countless children he inspired throughout his remarkable teaching career.
Born on September 19, 1941, in Schenectady, Scirocco dedicated over 50 years to education, starting as a sixth-grade teacher and culminating in a long tenure at Fort Edward Union Free Elementary School. Following his retirement from public education, he continued to nurture young minds alongside his wife, Carol, at their family daycare, Lil’ Bits.
Known for his passion for sports, especially baseball, Scirocco’s legacy includes a championship win at the 1954 Little League World Series in Williamsport, PA, a moment proudly commemorated in the National Baseball Hall of Fame. His love for baseball and basketball defined his youth and fostered lifelong friendships.
Jack is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Carol, three daughters, and two grandsons. His family, friends, and former students are invited to pay their respects on November 10, 2025, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Townley & Wheeler Funeral Home in Ballston Lake, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Glenville, NY.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Shriners Hospitals for Children, honoring Jack’s commitment to helping others.
