Crews Urgently Repair Sinkhole Near Clarkston Roundabout

URGENT UPDATE: Construction crews are actively repairing a significant sinkhole near the busy Clarkston roundabout, with repairs expected to be completed by November 7. A collapsed underground storm line, first identified in September, has caused disruptions on a major traffic route west of the Interstate “Blue” Bridge.

Officials confirmed that the sinkhole is located in the right lane, impacting traffic flow for one of the heaviest traveled routes in the Lewiston-Clarkston Valley. As holiday shoppers flock to nearby stores like Costco, Walmart, and Albertsons, the urgency for repairs has never been clearer.

Clarkston Public Works Director Mike Dimmick stated, “Every day, it’s looking better,” emphasizing the importance of restoring the area to prevent future issues. “I never want to see anything happen to the roundabout, ever again.” Dimmick highlighted that the ongoing work will ensure that the storm line and manhole are replaced, making the entire roundabout structurally sound.

The repair efforts are being carried out by M.L. Albright and Sons under the supervision of Knife River, the primary contractor on the project. Next week’s paving schedule will depend on weather conditions, but all efforts are being made to expedite the work.

As of now, discussions regarding the financial responsibility for the repairs are ongoing. The Washington State Department of Transportation is involved, alongside the city of Clarkston, and a decision is expected soon.

Officials are grateful for the public’s patience during this critical repair period. “There are no more sinkholes, thank God,” Dimmick reassured residents. The right lane will reopen fully as soon as the work is completed, promising a return to normalcy for commuters.

Stay tuned for further updates as the situation develops. Repair crews are working diligently to restore safe travel through this vital area.
