BREAKING: Harold (Hal) Warren, a cherished community leader and dedicated family man, has passed away at the age of 87 on November 29, 2025, at Nathan Littauer Hospital in Johnstown, NY. His death marks a significant loss for those who knew him and the many lives he impacted throughout his decades of service.
Warren was born on July 9, 1938, in Camden, NJ. He graduated from Morristown High School in 1957 before serving an honorable 8 years in the Army National Guard. His professional journey included pivotal roles at Bell Telephone Laboratories and GTE Data Services, culminating in an esteemed 18 years as a firefighter with the City of Johnstown.
In 1971, Warren founded the Johnstown Area Volunteer Ambulance Corp (JAVAC), a testament to his commitment to community service and emergency care. He was not only a leader but also a passionate supporter of the arts, engaging with local theater groups such as Colonial Little Theater and The Galway Players. His love for music led him to volunteer as a percussion instructor at Oppenheim Ephratah School.
Warren’s family remembers him fondly as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Dawn Warren, along with children Leslie (Rick) Garber, Heather (Jack) Hladik, and Lindsay Warren. He leaves behind numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews who cherished their time with him.
The family expresses profound gratitude to the staff at Nathan Littauer Nursing Home and the Special Care Unit at Nathan Littauer Hospital for their compassionate care during his final days.
In line with his family’s wishes, there will be no formal services. However, a Celebration of Life is planned for Spring 2026. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Brennan Humane Society or the Fulton County Regional SPCA, organizations that reflect Warren’s love for both community and animals.
