Celebrate the Holidays at the Texas Capitol with Sing-Along and Tree Lighting

The annual Holiday Sing-Along, Tree Lighting, and Downtown Stroll will take place on December 6, 2025, from 17:00 to 20:00 at the Texas State Capitol. This family-friendly event, organized by KUT News, KUTX 98.9, and the Downtown Austin Alliance, invites the community to gather and celebrate the festive season.

Community Tradition Continues

For over three decades, this cherished event has marked the beginning of the holiday season in Austin. The tradition was initiated by John Aielli in the 1980s, and his spirit continues as KUT News and KUTX Music personalities will lead participants in singing beloved holiday songs. Attendees will receive a complimentary keepsake songbook to assist with the lyrics, enhancing the communal singing experience.

Following the sing-along, the atmosphere will crescendo as the crowd counts down to the lighting of a magnificent 45-foot tree located at the intersection of 11th Street and Congress Avenue. This moment promises to be a highlight of the evening, drawing families and individuals together to witness the festive display.

The event is designed to be inclusive and accessible for all community members, making it a perfect outing for families. Besides the music and tree lighting, attendees can enjoy a leisurely stroll through downtown Austin, absorbing the holiday decorations and the vibrant atmosphere of the city during this special time of year.

With no admission fee, the Holiday Sing-Along and Tree Lighting offers a wonderful opportunity for residents and visitors alike to engage in the festive spirit, creating lasting memories with loved ones. This year’s gathering is set to continue the legacy of joy and togetherness that has defined this event for many years.
