Gonzaga concluded its nonconference schedule with a commanding 91-82 victory over Oregon on December 21, 2025, at the Moda Center in Portland. The seventh-ranked Zags demonstrated their resilience against a quality opponent, solidifying their position as a formidable team heading into West Coast Conference play.
Mark Few’s squad, now boasting a record of 12-1, achieved a historic milestone by winning eight nonleague games against high-major programs. This marks the first time in school history that Gonzaga has accomplished this feat. The team was poised to secure 12 nonconference victories by double-digit margins until a late surge by Oregon narrowed the final score to nine points.
“The teams put on a great show,” Few remarked after the game. He acknowledged the challenges presented by Oregon, particularly given their recent struggles with injuries. “When they’re at full strength, they’re a heckuva team. Their coaching staff has done an excellent job putting them in positions that really tested our defense.”
Gonzaga’s success was driven by a deep rotation, allowing them to effectively adapt their game plan throughout the nonconference schedule. The Zags showcased their versatility with strong performances from their frontcourt, a consistent 3-point shooting effort, and significant contributions from their bench.
Braden Huff and Graham Ike combined for an impressive 37 points, with Huff scoring 20 points on 9 of 16 shooting. This performance marked Huff’s fifth consecutive game with at least 20 points. Ike added 17 points and secured 11 rebounds, recording his seventh double-double of the season.
The game also featured standout play from Braeden Smith, who came off the bench to deliver a season-high 21 points. Smith’s efficient performance included 7 of 10 shooting, along with seven assists and no turnovers. Gonzaga’s ability to connect on 10 3-pointers, including multiple crucial shots from Adam Miller and Steele Venters, played a pivotal role in their offensive strategy.
Oregon’s Nate Bittle posed a significant challenge, contributing 28 points and displaying his skills as a former Gonzaga recruit. Coach Dana Altman praised his team’s offensive capabilities, noting their average of 90 points per game, yet acknowledged that Gonzaga’s defense was effective in limiting their scoring opportunities.
Despite a brief offensive slump in the first half, where Gonzaga went nearly five minutes without a field goal, the Zags managed to maintain a narrow 42-39 lead at halftime. Tyon Grant-Foster’s buzzer-beating 3-pointer provided a crucial boost heading into the break.
With this victory, Gonzaga now prepares for its upcoming West Coast Conference schedule, beginning on December 28 against Pepperdine, followed by a matchup with San Diego two days later. As the Zags transition into conference play, they look to build on their strong nonconference performance and continue their pursuit of success in the 2025 season.
