Turning Point USA has announced its intention to support Vice President JD Vance in a potential presidential run in 2028. This declaration came from Erika Kirk, who took over as CEO of the organization following the tragic assassination of her husband, Charlie Kirk, on September 10, 2023, during an event at Utah Valley University.
In her recent appearance on the Megyn Kelly Show, Erika Kirk emphasized that efforts are underway to bolster Vance’s candidacy if he decides to run. She recalled one of her final conversations with her husband, who was intentional in expressing support for Vance’s future ambitions. “Let’s start with the midterms before we start jumping to ’28,” she stated, underscoring the importance of focusing on the upcoming elections.
Erika Kirk highlighted the work that Turning Point USA has invested in ensuring the success of the current administration, noting her husband’s significant contributions to securing Donald Trump‘s presidency.
Supporting Vance’s potential candidacy has garnered attention from notable political figures. Earlier this year, Marco Rubio, the Secretary of State, expressed his belief that Vance would be an excellent nominee for the presidency if he chooses to pursue it. “I think JD Vance would be a great nominee… if he decides he wants to do that,” Rubio stated in an interview with Lara Trump. He praised Vance’s performance as vice president and referred to him as a close friend.
Former President Donald Trump has also weighed in on the matter, suggesting that a ticket consisting of Vance and Rubio would be formidable in 2028. “We have JD,” Trump remarked, adding, “Marco is great.”
Vance, for his part, has indicated a desire to prioritize the upcoming 2026 midterm elections before contemplating a presidential run. He reaffirmed this commitment in a recent discussion with Sean Hannity, stating, “So we’re going to win the midterms, we’re going to do everything we can to win the midterms, and then after that, I’m going to sit down with the president of the United States and talk to him about it.”
While Vance acknowledges the potential of a presidential bid, he remains focused on fulfilling his current responsibilities. “I try to put it out of my head and remind myself the American people elected me to do a job right now and my job is to do it,” he concluded.
The developments surrounding Vance’s future political aspirations signal a growing momentum within Turning Point USA and its leadership, especially in light of recent events. As the political landscape evolves, the support for Vance’s potential candidacy will undoubtedly be a focal point in the lead-up to the next presidential election cycle.
