San Antonio Marathon Needs Volunteers Now for Dec. 5-7 Event

URGENT UPDATE: The inaugural San Antonio Marathon is just one week away, set to kick off from December 5-7, 2023, and organizers urgently need volunteers to ensure the event’s success. With over 18,000 registrations anticipated across various events, including a Friday night 5K, a Saturday expo, and both a half and full-marathon on Sunday, your help is critical!

The excitement is palpable as runners from the San Antonio area gear up for this groundbreaking marathon weekend hosted by San Antonio Sports. However, the scale of the event means that hundreds of volunteers are required to assist with logistics and provide support on race day.

Longtime volunteer and runner, Heather Hepp, emphasizes the profound impact of volunteering: “You’re giving back to the community and you’re helping someone succeed,” she stated. Hepp, who has volunteered for several years, understands the journey of athletes firsthand. “It’s so impactful that somebody who’s affected my journey, I now have that opportunity to share that same experience with them,” she added.

Jenny Carnes, President & CEO of San Antonio Sports, confirmed the overwhelming enthusiasm for the marathon, saying, “Just couldn’t be happier about the support we’ve seen.” However, she stressed the urgent need for more hands on deck, particularly in three key areas: the Friday night 5K, the expo on Saturday, and the finish line on Sunday, which she called “the most rewarding place to volunteer.”

For those inspired by the spirit of the marathon, volunteer Dan Andrews shared his own journey, stating, “After volunteering a couple of years, I decided that if they could do it, I could do it.” Andrews ran his first half-marathon four years ago and has been running ever since!

Individuals, groups, and teams are encouraged to sign up and play a vital role in this exciting event. Interested volunteers can find full details at SanAntonioSports.org.
