Born on October 31, 1961, in Montreal, Canada, Andre spent his formative years in Suffolk, Virginia. He pursued a degree in Architecture at the University of Virginia, where he began to cultivate his passion for design and innovation. After completing his studies, he married Mary Ellen Vance, and together they embarked on a journey that would take them to various corners of the world, including Norfolk, London, and Hong Kong.
During their time in Hong Kong, Andre and Mary established a family and formed lasting friendships that would enrich their lives. Andre was known for his quick wit, intelligence, and a laid-back demeanor that made him approachable and well-liked among colleagues and friends alike.

Andre Ballard’s professional journey saw him involved in numerous high-profile architectural projects throughout Hong Kong, Singapore, Macau, and Saudi Arabia. He took particular pride in his role in designing the City of Dreams in Macau, a stunning complex created in collaboration with the renowned architect Zaha Hadid. Additionally, a memorial gathering is scheduled at the family’s home in the United States, located at 2709 S. Virginia Dare Trail, Nags Head, NC, on Saturday, December 6, from 18:00 onward. This gathering will provide an opportunity for friends and family to share stories, raise toasts, and scatter Andre’s ashes in the ocean that he cherished.
