Ferndale’s Lt. Col. Dane Coppini to Lead Flyover at NFL Game

UPDATE: In a thrilling announcement, Air Force Lt. Col. Dane Coppini, a proud native of Ferndale, will lead a spectacular flyover of four T-38C Talon jets at the Kansas City Chiefs vs. Indianapolis Colts NFL game this Sunday at 10 a.m. (local time). This honor highlights Military Appreciation Month and showcases the dedication of military personnel.

Coppini, who has amassed over 15 years of flying experience, is assigned to the 87th Flying Training Squadron, known as the “Red Bulls,” at Laughlin Air Force Base in Del Rio, Texas. He emphasized that the squadron applies for several flyovers yearly, and this marks a significant milestone for him, as it will be his first flyover since joining the squadron a year ago.

As the U.S. Air Force’s primary training jet, the T-38C Talon plays a crucial role in preparing pilots for their future missions. Coppini expressed his excitement for this event, saying, “It’s a blessing and an honor to fly in such a significant event.”

Having entered the military as an enlisted member 19 years ago, Coppini transitioned from being an “Air Force cop” to a pilot candidate after his first deployment. His career trajectory has included multiple deployments to Afghanistan, Iraq, and various locations in Africa. He remarked, “I love what I do, and at this point in my career, not many get to fly as much as I do.”

Coppini’s mother, Carrie Coppini, expressed immense pride in her son’s accomplishments. “We’re super proud of him. He’s a high flier!” she shared, noting the family’s excitement for the event. “He loves Ferndale and is thankful for everyone that’s helped him along his path.”

As the flyover approaches, local supporters are rallying to witness this tribute to military service, further emphasizing the strong community connection Coppini maintains with his roots.

Fans and family alike are gearing up for a moment that is not only a reflection of Coppini’s personal journey but also a celebration of the sacrifices made by military personnel across the country. This flyover promises to be a highlight of the game and a touching tribute to those who serve.
