URGENT UPDATE: Maria T. Wierzbowski, aged 83, has passed away peacefully at Ellis Hospital on November 17, 2025. Born in Hamburg, Germany on June 11, 1942, Maria’s life was a testament to resilience and creativity, making her loss felt deeply by family and friends.
Maria’s journey began in Wieprz, Poland, where she spent her formative years before immigrating to the United States in 1968. Upon her arrival, she quickly established herself as a master seamstress, showcasing her artistic skills and work ethic. Later, she joined General Electric Research and Development as a cleaner, reflecting her industrious nature.
Throughout her life, Maria nurtured a profound love for the outdoors, finding peace in her garden, where she cultivated trees and plants. Her hands were always at work, crafting beautiful wreaths and quilts, creating warm memories for her loved ones that will last for generations.
Family was the cornerstone of Maria’s existence. She cherished her time with her sons, Edward Wierzbowski and Adam Wierzbowski, and adored her grandchildren, Kirsten, Zara, Luca, and Ayla Wierzbowski. Memories of joyful family gatherings filled with polka music and stories from Poland will forever resonate in their hearts.
Maria was predeceased by her husband, Zygmunt Wierzbowski, in 1993, and her brothers, John, Eugene, and Edward Szostak. She is survived by her sister, Zofia Wronka, and dear cousin, Kathleen Chastney.
A funeral service is scheduled for Thursday, November 20, 2025, at 1 p.m. at the chapel at Memory Gardens in Colonie, New York. Following the service, interment will take place. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Maria’s name to the Glenville Hill Volunteer Fire Department at 1086 Church Road, Glenville, NY 12302.
