Celebrating the Life of Kevin J. McAloon: A Legacy of Achievement

Kevin J. McAloon, a distinguished electrical engineer and cherished family man, passed away on September 16, 2025, at the age of 89. Born in Chicago, Illinois, he was the son of John H. McAloon and Eileen A. O’Sullivan McAloon. His educational journey began at Notre Dame Academy in Watsonville, California, followed by high school at St. Ignatius High School in Chicago.

After completing his secondary education, McAloon dedicated two years to the U.S. Army. He then pursued higher education, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Detroit in Detroit, Michigan, and later a Master’s degree in the same field from the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, California.

A Career in Aerospace and Engineering

McAloon spent an impressive 30 years in the aerospace industry, where he contributed to significant advancements while working with major companies such as Douglas Aircraft and Northrop. Most notably, he dedicated 23 years to TRW, retiring in 1992. Following his retirement, he continued to share his expertise as a part-time consultant at TRW and Northrop Grumman for another nine years.

His professional achievements were matched by a vibrant personal life. McAloon was passionate about motorcycle riding, enjoying both dirt and street biking, and he loved embarking on local and cross-country trips with his children. His enthusiasm for physical activity extended to running; he completed four marathons—three alongside his son—and participated in numerous 10K races. After transitioning from running, he discovered a love for cycling, particularly enjoying rides along the Palos Verdes peninsula and in the farming landscapes of the Sacramento Valley.

A Loving Family Man

Kevin McAloon is survived by his four children, including his daughter Karen, and two grandchildren, Jack and Madeleine. He also leaves behind four nieces and nephews: Jack, Maureen, Jim, and Kathy.

His family fondly remembers him not only for his professional accomplishments but also for his vibrant personality. They reflected on his wit, charm, kindness, and deep love of salt, along with his unique Irish humour. In their words, “He will be missed.”
