Austin Animal Services, in partnership with Greater Good Charities, has launched a free spay/neuter clinic for pets in Austin and Travis County. This initiative will run from November 13 through November 17, 2025, providing essential services to alleviate the financial burden many pet owners face. Alongside spay and neuter procedures, the clinic offers free vaccinations, microchips, and flea/tick prevention treatments.
“Our commitment is to ensure that every pet owner—regardless of their income or neighborhood—has access to the services that keep pets healthy and communities safe,” stated Rolando Fernandez, Interim Director of Animal Services, in a recent announcement from the City of Austin.
Addressing Animal Overpopulation
This clinic addresses the ongoing challenge of animal overpopulation, which contributes to an increase in stray and homeless pets. It also seeks to mitigate the issues created by unintended litters and roaming animals within neighborhoods. As the sixth clinic of its kind in the past year, the initiative aims to build on previous successes, having already provided surgeries to more than 5,000 pets. The current event hopes to benefit an additional 1,200 animals.
The typical cost for spay and neuter procedures can range from $75 to several hundred dollars, often requiring long waits for appointments. This free clinic removes those financial and logistical barriers, making vital services accessible to all.
Details for Pet Owners
Pet owners planning to utilize the clinic should arrive early at the location, which is situated at 11580 Stonehollow Dr., Suite 160, Austin, TX 78758. Services will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis, with registration starting at 6:00 am and concluding by 10:00 am daily, or until capacity is reached.
Looking ahead, organizers are preparing for another event scheduled for early 2026. The goal is to promote responsible pet ownership and enhance community safety. While such initiatives often attract large crowds and can lead to logistical challenges, the overarching aim is to improve the lives of pets and their owners.
This community-driven effort reflects a broader commitment to ensuring every animal has access to quality care. In a city known for its progressive values, the initiative underscores the importance of responsible pet ownership and the welfare of all creatures, not just humans.
