Urgent: DFW Sabores Event Showcases Mexican Cuisine Dec. 11

UPDATE: The Dallas Morning News and Al Día are set to host the highly anticipated DFW Sabores en la Comunidad event on December 11, bringing authentic Mexican cuisine to the forefront of the community. This Spanish-language gathering will take place at the Vickery Park Library in Dallas, starting with check-in at 6:00 PM and a panel discussion at 6:30 PM.

The event features senior food reporter Imelda García, along with three celebrated local Mexican chefs. They will explore the deep cultural significance of food in the Mexican community, highlighting how it transcends mere sustenance to embody love, memory, and tradition. García emphasizes that the D-FW Sabores initiative goes beyond tacos, showcasing over 30 authentic dishes from diverse Mexican states, including Oaxaca and Jalisco.

“Food is an equalizer that brings people together,” García stated. “Behind each dish, there is a story that connects us to our heritage and to each other.” The event will feature food samples from various restaurants involved in the project, allowing attendees to taste the rich flavors of Mexican culture firsthand.

This community event is part of ongoing efforts by the Dallas Morning News to engage with the local Hispanic population, which comprises approximately 42% of Dallas County, according to U.S. Census data. Managing Editor Amy Hollyfield stressed the newsroom’s commitment to building trust within the community, stating, “We are meeting them where they are and highlighting the love for Mexican food and culture.”

Previous community events have addressed critical issues, such as mental health access in the Hispanic community. This upcoming gathering aims to foster connection and understanding through the universal language of food.
