The community is mourning the passing of Vernon A. Nathe, who died peacefully on November 1, 2025, surrounded by family. He was 88 years old. Born in Clarkston, Washington, in 1937, Vern was the youngest of five siblings in the Nathe family, raised by his parents Elizabeth and Peter Nathe.
Vern graduated from Washington State University and subsequently served two years in the army, stationed in Germany. After his military service, he relocated to Mountain View, California, where he met his future wife, Lou Elsa Voegtly. The couple enjoyed a loving marriage that lasted 60 years, during which they raised three sons: Michael, Matthew, and Jonathan, in their home in Novato.
Career and Community Involvement
Vern was well-known in the local community for his work at Dominican College in San Rafael, where he ran his own business, Nathe Food Service. He later became the owner of West Brooklyn Pizza in San Rafael, a popular spot for locals. His contributions extended beyond his professional life; Vern was a devoted Christian who actively participated in his church choir and generously supported his community.
An avid golfer, Vern was a long-time member of Marin Country Club. He was also a passionate fan of the San Francisco 49ers, holding season tickets that spanned from Kezar Stadium through Candlestick Park for decades. He ultimately passed the tickets to his sons when the team relocated to Santa Clara.
Vern’s legacy is one of kindness and loyalty. He leaves behind his wife, Lou Elsa, their three sons, four grandchildren, his sister Ethel, and numerous nieces and nephews.
