UPDATE: Major disruptions are impacting Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) service this weekend, with significant changes on the Port Jefferson and Ronkonkoma branches. The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) announced that service suspensions began early this morning, October 7, 2023, and will last until 2:15 a.m. on Monday.
For passengers on the Port Jefferson Branch, service is fully suspended between Mineola and Huntington. To accommodate affected riders, hourly shuttle buses are being deployed, making stops at Hicksville, Syosset, and Cold Spring Harbor. Additionally, there will be no LIRR service at both Carle Place and Westbury. The MTA recommends using the NICE bus routes n22, n24, or n35, which will accept LIRR tickets at no additional cost.
On the Ronkonkoma line, trains will operate every two hours between Penn Station and Ronkonkoma but will be rerouted via the south shore. Trains between the Jamaica and Farmingdale stations will change direction twice without making any stops, potentially adding significant delays. Commuters are advised to allow at least 50 minutes of extra travel time to reach their destinations.
Passengers should also note there is no service at Bethpage. Travelers are advised to board trains at either Farmingdale or Seaford stations instead.
These service changes are necessary as transit officials conduct critical signal upgrade work in Hicksville, aimed at improving long-term reliability and safety for all commuters.
For ongoing updates, passengers can check the MTA website as conditions evolve throughout the weekend. This urgent reminder is crucial for commuters planning their travel around the affected routes. Stay informed and plan accordingly to minimize disruptions.
