SCV Chamber Honors Veterans at Urgent 15th Annual Salute Event

UPDATE: The Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce celebrated local heroes in an urgent ceremony on November 5, 2025, at the SCV Senior Center at Bella Vida. This 15th Annual Salute to Patriots honored veterans who continue to serve their community long after their military careers have ended.

Local dignitaries gathered to recognize six outstanding veterans whose contributions have significantly impacted the Santa Clarita Valley (SCV). The honorees included Anthony Straight, Vernon Charles Miller, Juan Blanco, Robert Lasher, Sheriff’s Deputy Keith Wells, and Eric White. Notably, the seventh honoree, Camille Applin-Jones, was unable to attend and will be acknowledged at next year’s event.

The ceremony served as a heartfelt thank you to these veterans for their “unwavering service, profound sacrifice, and steadfast dedication to safeguarding the freedoms we cherish as Americans,” emphasized Di Thompson, 2025 chair of the board for the SCV Chamber. “You are not only defenders of our country but also the pride of our community. You are heroes, both nationally and right here at home.”

Community members across the SCV were encouraged to nominate veterans who have positively influenced the local business scene, ensuring that those deserving recognition are honored. Ivan Volschenk, president and CEO of the SCV Chamber, reiterated this call, highlighting the importance of acknowledging unsung heroes.

As each honoree was called to the podium, local leaders shared brief narratives that underscored their contributions to the community. All honorees had one common goal: to strengthen and brighten the SCV for both veterans and non-veterans alike.

Among the touching moments, Emily White introduced her husband, Eric White, as an honoree, a recognition he never expected but certainly deserved. “I love that he has a servant’s heart. Anyone he meets, if he can help, he goes out of his way to do so,” she remarked.

Veteran Robert Lasher, who volunteers at the SCV Food Pantry, expressed that his service has given him purpose following the loss of his wife during the pandemic. “It was nice that they were there to help me out and for me to help them out,” Lasher stated.

Santa Clarita Mayor Bill Miranda reinforced the community’s commitment to supporting veterans during his address. “This community supports our veterans and always will. We must understand everything veterans have been through, are going through, and will face in the future,” he asserted. “Our city is dedicated to treating our veterans right and fair.”

The 15th Annual Salute to Patriots not only celebrated individual achievements but also fostered a sense of unity and acknowledgment within the community, encouraging ongoing support for those who have served.

As the SCV Chamber looks ahead, community members are invited to continue nominating veterans for recognition, ensuring that the legacy of service and commitment remains alive and well in Santa Clarita.
