Asotin FFA Team Claims Second Place at Nationals, Shines Bright

UPDATE: The Asotin FFA Parliamentary Procedure Team has just secured a stunning second place finish at the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, marking a historic achievement for both the team and their mentor. This significant event took place last week, and the excitement continues to resonate throughout the Asotin community.

The six-member team, led by Glen Landrus, celebrated their remarkable feat after outperforming numerous competitors at the prestigious event. “It’s sort of surreal, honestly,” said Berklie Sheppard, a 17-year-old senior and team member. She expressed their shock at making it to the final round, especially since Landrus had never led a team this far in his 29 years as an FFA adviser.

During a special assembly held at 9:30 a.m. this morning in the high school gym, Landrus praised his students for their dedication and hard work. “Winning in FFA is hard,” he told the audience of students. “To be excellent, you need to seize opportunity.” The team, which includes seniors Stone Ausman, Spencer Conklin, Cody Ells, Noah Saltz, and Tegan Isley, a 2025 graduate, demonstrated exceptional talent and teamwork throughout the competition.

The Parliamentary Procedure competition requires teams to master Robert’s Rules of Order and conduct a meeting before judges. The Asotin team proudly competed against a California team, representing a much larger student population than Asotin’s 190-student school. Their second-place finish is a testament to their skill and commitment.

In addition to the FFA team’s accolades, junior Kambree Palmer showcased her talent as a violinist, earning her own moment in the spotlight at nationals. Selected from 400 submissions, she was among just 60 performers invited to compete. Although she didn’t make the top 10 cut, Palmer performed multiple times daily throughout the week and was honored to play “The Star-Spangled Banner” for over 10,000 attendees at the Lucas Oil Stadium, home of the Indianapolis Colts.

As the excitement from this achievement settles in, Landrus emphasized the importance of going above and beyond in pursuit of greatness. “Doing what’s required will not make you great,” he advised the students. “It’s what you do above and beyond that.”

This incredible achievement by the Asotin FFA team and Palmer not only highlights their hard work but also serves as an inspiration for future students. The community is invited to celebrate their success and reflect on the dedication it takes to reach such heights.
