Urgent Traffic Alerts for Boulder County: Major Closures Ahead

URGENT UPDATE: Major traffic disruptions are set to impact Boulder County from November 1 to 7, with critical roadwork and infrastructure projects underway. Residents and commuters are urged to plan alternate routes as several key areas face significant closures and detours.

Beginning with 28th Street improvements, a project designed to enhance multimodal travel between Pearl and Iris will temporarily relocate the northbound RTD Stop No. 17992, serving routes 205 and BOLT, just south of the Valmont intersection. This relocation will remain in effect until December 31.

In a related development, crews will initiate a bridge replacement over Fourmile Canyon Creek at 19th Street. This project will also construct a bike and pedestrian underpass, leading to a full closure of northbound 19th Street between Sumac and Upland. The detour for vehicles and RTD services will be via Quince, with an expected completion date of April 1.

Further complicating travel, the 63rd Street waterline replacement project will close 63rd, Andrus, and 62nd Streets from Jay to Valmont. Access for business and residential areas will be maintained, but through traffic will be disrupted until April 1.

Motorists should be aware of ongoing milling and paving operations on Colo. 7, which are scheduled to continue through late October. Expect alternating double-lane closures between 28th Street and Cherryvale Road from 7 a.m. to midnight on weekdays, with completion anticipated by December 15.

In the Boulder County area, two culvert replacements on Sugarloaf Road at Betasso Road will result in lane closures and a temporary three-way traffic signal, causing travel delays. This work is expected to last into November, though access to Betasso Preserve will remain open.

Boulder is also undertaking a comprehensive waterline replacement project on 63rd Street, impacting traffic through February. The area between Jay and Valmont will be closed to through traffic, with local access permitted. Additionally, a full closure of 63rd Street between Jay Road and Twin Lakes Road will be necessary for a culvert replacement starting on Monday, lasting through mid-November.

In Erie, the Prince Lake Dam rehabilitation project at 111th Street and Flatiron Meadows Boulevard will continue until March 2026, focusing on rebuilding sections of the dam and drainage infrastructure. While no lane closures are expected, brief delays may occur as work trucks access the site.

Also in Erie, the Erie Parkway and Glacier Drive traffic signal project will induce lane closures for installation through December on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Finally, WCR 1.5 and 3 will be fully closed for maintenance through November 26, restricting access 24 hours a day.
