Mazda Unveils Updated Logo at Japan Mobility Show 2025

Mazda officially introduced its new logo at the 2025 Japan Mobility Show, marking a significant update to its branding. This new design has been anticipated since the trademark filing emerged over a year ago. The logo reflects a subtle evolution of the existing symbol that has been in use since 1997.

The updated logo features a cleaner and flatter look, aligning with trends seen in other automotive brands, such as Volkswagen and BMW. Mazda believes this minimalist approach will enhance digital visibility and appeal. Although the new emblem retains the iconic wings, they are less pronounced than in the previous iteration, leading to mixed reactions regarding its depth and character.

Details of the Logo and Brand Strategy

In addition to the redesigned logo, Mazda is incorporating a new wordmark across several of its models. The 2026 CX-5 showcases this change with a sleek “Mazda” script on both the tailgate and the steering wheel, while the traditional emblem remains on the front grille. The EZ-60 crossover, sold in China, and the EZ-6, known as the 6e in other markets, also feature this updated branding, albeit with the wordmark only on the rear in the latter case.

Mazda has indicated that the initial rollout of the new logo will focus on enhancing its presence in the digital space. The company is currently assessing whether existing models will transition to the new branding, while future models are expected to adopt these graphics gradually.

According to Tamara Mlynarczyk, manager of public affairs for Mazda North American Operations, the shift to a more modern visual identity is part of a broader strategy to adapt to changing consumer preferences. “We aim to create a bold and sleek image that resonates with our audience,” she stated.

Concept Cars and Future Directions

Alongside the logo reveal, Mazda showcased its Vision X-Coupe and X-Compact concepts, which prominently feature the revised wordmark. These vehicles are on display at the Japan Mobility Show and represent the next evolution of Mazda’s Kodo design language, first introduced in the 2010 Shinari concept. The X-Compact is anticipated to provide a glimpse into the future of the Mazda2, while the Vision X-Coupe hints at a potential rotary sports car.

While the revival of the RX series remains uncertain, Mazda has confirmed plans for a new Miata, which is eagerly anticipated by fans of the brand. As Mazda moves forward with these updates, the company aims to solidify its presence in the competitive automotive market while staying true to its design heritage.
