The Benicia High School flag football team secured a victory over Alhambra High School with a score of 19-13 on Tuesday afternoon. This win marks their advancement to the quarterfinals of the North Coast Section Division II playoffs, where they are set to face St. Mary’s High School on Thursday evening at Cardinal Newman. With this win, Benicia improves its season record to 14-5, while St. Mary’s remains undefeated at 19-0.
Volleyball and Tennis Results
In other local sports, the North Hills Christian girls volleyball team concluded its season with a challenging match against St. Vincent de Paul. The Eagles lost in straight sets in the first round of the North Coast Section Division 7 playoffs, with scores of 25-3, 25-8, 25-7. North Hills Christian ends the season with an overall record of 7-8.
Meanwhile, the Bethel High School girls tennis team triumphed over Vallejo in a spirited rivalry match, winning 5-2. Key victories for Bethel included No. 1 singles player Heena Bharti, who dominated with a score of 6-0, 6-0. Other notable performances came from No. 3 singles player Rovily Zabalerio (6-3, 6-1) and No. 4 singles player Vy Phan (6-0, 6-0). The doubles team of Alaysia Simmons and Juliana Valenzuela also excelled, winning their match 6-0, 6-1.
The first and second rounds of the Tri-County Athletic League Tournament will commence on Tuesday.
Cross Country Achievements
In cross country, American Canyon High School made headlines at the Napa Valley Showdown, held at Napa Golf Course in Kennedy Park. The boys’ team shattered a course record by over two minutes, with freshman Simon Reyes finishing fifth overall in a time of 17 minutes, 35 seconds on the 3-mile course.
On the girls’ side, freshman Allyse Aliga led her team with an eighth-place finish, clocking in at 22:31. She was closely followed by junior Bianca Padilla in ninth place (22:39) and senior Breanna Dayrit in tenth place (23:27), all of whom set new records for American Canyon.
The next competition for the cross country team is the VVAL Championship Meet, scheduled for November 8 at Maxwell Park in Sonoma.
