Twin sisters Alisa Officer and Alicia Officer-Foot have launched a new café named Unapologetic Coffee at Canisius University in Buffalo, New York. This opening marks a return to the sisters’ roots, as both graduated from the university, earning their bachelor’s and master’s degrees. The café is located within the university’s Science Hall and is open to students and the public from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Reflecting on their time at the university, Alisa Officer shared, “I remember running to Old Main early in the morning and just getting a bagel and a coffee, hoping my professor would not call me out on it.” Her nostalgia is evident as she and her sister aim to recreate that experience for current students by providing quick service and quality food options.
Community Focused Offerings
Both sisters have built their careers outside of the coffee business, with Alisa working in education and Alicia in accounting. Despite their professional paths, they have managed to develop Unapologetic Coffee, a coffee roasting business that has garnered attention in the Buffalo area. The new café enhances their mission of serving high-quality products while supporting local businesses.
Alicia emphasized the community aspect of their café, stating, “There’s a full kitchen here, so we actually make a lot of our salads fresh. All the dressings are made in-house, and all the bagels are local. We get them from Logan’s Bagels, so it’s really a community effort to get this out.” This commitment to sourcing local ingredients not only supports the regional economy but also enhances the quality of their offerings.
A Full-Circle Experience
The café’s opening is described as a full-circle experience for the sisters, as they return to their alma mater. Alicia noted, “It’s just like coming home. My husband graduated here also, so it’s just a family experience.” This personal connection adds a unique layer to their business, as they hope to create a welcoming environment for students and staff.
The sisters’ dedication to their community and university life resonates with many, as they aim to fuel the next generation of Golden Griffins. Alisa remarked, “We live in the neighborhood, and like she said, we’re Griffs forever. Go Griffs!” This local pride is reflected in their commitment to providing a vibrant café atmosphere that encourages both productivity and relaxation.
