Carol A. Stent, Beloved Wife and Community Figure, Passes Away

Carol A. Stent passed away peacefully in her sleep on September 22, 2025, at her home in Overton, Nevada, alongside her husband, David Y. Nakahara. Born on July 14, 1939, in Cambridge, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of John and Jenny (Slajinsky) Prespolis. Carol spent her early years surrounded by family as the eldest of seven siblings, comprising three brothers and three sisters.

She graduated in the Class of 1957 from Saint Mary’s of the Annunciation, where she formed lasting friendships with classmates and the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, who played a pivotal role in her education. Her adventurous spirit led her and four classmates to seek careers in San Francisco, California, where they also found love.

Career and Personal Life

While in Los Angeles, Carol met Raymond Michael Stent, a medical intern originally from England, during his residency at Los Angeles County U.S.C. Hospital. They married at Wayfarers Chapel after Raymond completed his Board Certification in Neurology at U.C.L.A.. Although their marriage ended in divorce in the 1980s, Carol’s life took a positive turn when she found love again with David Nakahara, an attorney in Torrance, California. The couple wed in Las Vegas, Nevada, on May 20, 1989.

In 1998, Carol and David relocated to Las Vegas, where they enjoyed a fulfilling life together, caring for a total of seventeen pets over the years. Carol had an immense passion for animals and was known for her love of all creatures, great and small. She dedicated time to help David care for his elderly parents, providing them with support and guidance during their final years.

Legacy of Love and Resilience

Despite facing challenges, including a stroke that left her partially paralyzed, Carol remained a beacon of light for those around her. Her wit, determination, and capacity for love left a lasting impact on her family and friends.

Carol is survived by her husband, David, and her sisters, Paula Couture of Dracut, Massachusetts, and Naples, Florida, Janet Buchino of Randolph, Massachusetts, and Naples, Florida, and Helen Botehlo of Conway, South Carolina. Her life was a testament to enduring love and resilience.
