Dolly Parton has shared a candid update on her health, revealing that she has experienced some challenges following the death of her husband, Carl Dean. During a video message posted on March 13, the iconic singer addressed concerns from fans about her wellbeing, especially after her sister, Freida Parton, urged supporters to “pray” for her last year.
In the video, which coincided with the opening day of Dollywood, Parton stated, “I’ve had a few little health issues, and we’re taking good care of them.” She acknowledged that her grief over losing her husband, who passed away on March 3, 2025, contributed to feeling “worn down.” Last September, she had also dealt with kidney stones, which required medical attention.
Parton emphasized her commitment to regaining her strength. “I just kind of got worn down and worn out, grieving over Carl and a lot of other little things going on,” she explained. “I just got myself kind of where I needed to build myself back up spiritually, emotionally, and physically. But, all is good. It didn’t slow me down.”
Despite the emotional toll of her loss, Parton maintained her trademark humor. She jokingly clarified that she is not dating anyone new, quipping about the Dollywood Company President Eugene Naughton, saying he should not be mistaken for a new romantic partner. “I think Carl Dean’s waiting for me,” she added. “If I should show up at the pearly gates with somebody else, he would not like that. He’d be saying, ‘Who’s that little pisser? You leave him outside the gates.’”
In a previous update on October 8, 2023, Parton reassured fans about her health while filming for the Grand Ole Opry in Tennessee. “I want you to know I’m okay. I’ve got some problems as I mentioned, back when my husband Carl was very sick…when he passed, I let a lot of things go that I should have been taking care of,” she stated, reinforcing that her current health concerns are manageable.
Parton’s enduring spirit and humor resonate with her fans, and she remains a beloved figure in the country music scene. As she navigates through her grief and health issues, her messages continue to inspire and uplift those who admire her.
“I ain’t dead yet!” she remarked in a lighthearted tone, capturing her resilience and determination to move forward. With her fans’ support, Parton is focused on her health and future endeavors, embodying the strength she has always shown throughout her illustrious career.
