This win not only solidified their third place in the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association standings but also extended their winning streak to five games. With this victory, the Jets improved their overall record to 15-15 and finished conference play with an impressive 11-5.
As the Jets prepare for the NJCAA Region XVII tournament, they will host Albany Technical College in a quarterfinal matchup on March 12, 2024, at 19:00 in The Hangar, located in Americus. Central Georgia Technical College topped the GCAA regular-season standings with a remarkable 15-1 conference record and will host the Region XVII semifinals and championship rounds on March 13-14 in Macon, provided they advance.
In the final standings, South Georgia State secured second place with a record of 13-3, while Gordon College finished fourth at 8-8. The competition was fierce, as Albany Tech and East Georgia State both ended the season tied for fifth with records of 7-9. Georgia Highlands, Southern Crescent Tech, and Andrew College rounded out the standings with 6-10, 3-13, and 2-14 records, respectively.
Jets Dominate Second Half Against Gordon College
The Jets showcased a balanced offensive strategy against Gordon College, particularly excelling in the second half where they outscored their opponents 47-30. Jalexs Ewing was a standout performer for South Georgia Tech, leading the team with 24 points, complemented by five rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Clark Mastin contributed significantly with 17 points, while Jarius Davis added 16 points.
In addition to the strong performances from the starters, Matt Mbole recorded a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Ilich Yacaman chipped in with 10 points, while Dwight Brown added eight points. Both Frainkie Raines and Marc Ferdy contributed three points each. The Jets lost their earlier encounter with Central Georgia Tech 84-74 on January 7 in Americus, emphasizing the significance of their recent success as they gear up for the upcoming tournament.
