Nevada K-12 Graduation Rates Surge to 85.4% in 2025

UPDATE: Nevada’s K-12 education system is experiencing a remarkable turnaround, with the state-wide graduation rate soaring to 85.4 percent in 2025—up nearly 4 points from the previous year. This surge is driven by innovative strategies implemented by school leaders across the state, hoping to elevate Nevada’s education reputation as they recover from the pandemic.

The Clark County School District (CCSD), the largest in Nevada, has played a pivotal role in this growth, reporting a graduation rate of 86.6 percent for the class of 2025. This marks a stunning 5.1 percent increase from the prior year. Superintendent Jhone Ebert stated, “While we [still] have work ahead of us, our district is on the move.”

The second-largest district, Washoe County School District (WCSD), also made impressive gains, with graduation rates climbing to just over 83 percent. Superintendent Joe Ersnt emphasized that these students are now prepared to contribute to their communities, stating, “Their achievements are the result of strong and nurturing partnerships between schools, teachers, students, and families.”

A key factor in boosting graduation rates has been addressing chronic absenteeism. CCSD reduced its rates by 4.4 percent this year, a testament to ongoing efforts initiated during the pandemic. Ebert credited federal investments that enhanced staffing and curriculum quality, adding, “These improvements are the seeds sown starting back in 2020.”

Private institutions like The Meadows School in Las Vegas continue to report high graduation rates, maintaining a perfect 100 percent graduation rate. Dr. Jay Berckley, head of the school, noted, “Meadows’ students consistently perform well above state averages across academic indicators.”

Both public and private schools have ramped up emphasis on testing, resulting in increased state assessment scores. Ebert reported significant year-over-year improvements across grade levels in English language arts, mathematics, and science, particularly among middle school students.

With graduation rates rising, students are increasingly prepared for post-secondary education. All Meadows graduates proceed to four-year colleges, including highly selective institutions. Similarly, Bishop Manogue Catholic High School reports that over 80 percent of its graduates pursue higher education.

While college remains a primary focus, both Berckley and Thoreson are committed to supporting diverse post-secondary pathways, emphasizing thoughtful choices aligned with students’ aspirations. “Our goal is not to funnel students into a single outcome,” said Berckley.

The CCSD is also expanding its “College and Career Ready Diploma,” with a record 7,011 graduates achieving this rigorous designation, representing nearly 30 percent of the class. A recent study revealed that Nevada ranks second in the nation for growth in dual enrollment, with a staggering 31 percent increase in students taking college courses while in high school.

Internships and career readiness programs are gaining traction in WCSD, with nearly 200 students participating in real-world experiences this year. Ersnt stated, “This is a crucial part of our community to [students’] education.”

As the education landscape evolves, school leaders are also prioritizing student well-being. Berckley highlighted the need for balancing academics with life skills, stating, “Preparation for life beyond high school goes well beyond academics.”

With the rise of artificial intelligence (AI), schools are adapting curricula to equip students for future challenges. Ebert stressed the importance of responsible AI integration, viewing it as a major economic shift. The CCSD is piloting AI tools, enabling students to refine their learning processes.

As Nevada’s K-12 education system strives for improvement, the emphasis on holistic education, career readiness, and innovative teaching methods signals a promising future for students. With graduation rates climbing and a focus on well-rounded development, Nevada is on the path to reshaping its educational landscape for generations to come.
