First Tee – South Dakota has officially opened its new First Tee Learning Center at 2600 West Russell Street in Sioux Falls, marking a significant milestone in the organization’s mission to inspire young people through educational programs centered around golf. The grand opening celebration is scheduled for February 27, 2026, from 16:00 to 19:30, inviting community members, partners, and supporters to explore the new facility.
Empowering Youth Through Education
According to Julie Jansa, CEO of First Tee – South Dakota, the Learning Center represents an essential step forward in their commitment to fostering character, life skills, and healthy lifestyles among youth. “For more than 15 years, First Tee – South Dakota has been dedicated to helping kids build confidence, resilience, and character,” Jansa stated. “This Learning Center is more than just a building—it’s an opportunity for our community to expand our access and create opportunities for all kids, especially those who need us most.”
The new center will serve as a year-round hub for youth development, increasing access to programs that are expected to benefit thousands of children across the state. The facility will support after-school programs, leadership initiatives, mentorship opportunities, and specialized activities such as Homework and Hitting, which combines academic support with golf training.
A Safe Haven for Kids
Kristy Griffin, Board Chair of First Tee – South Dakota, emphasized the transformative potential of the Learning Center. “This space will be transformational for our organization,” Griffin remarked. “This facility represents growth, opportunity, stability, and a true safe haven for the kids we serve.” The center aims to enhance partnerships with local schools and community organizations, ensuring that at-risk and underserved youth have a welcoming space to engage in constructive activities.
First Tee – South Dakota anticipates that the Learning Center will significantly bolster its programming, making golf and character education more accessible to youth throughout the region. By providing a dedicated space for these initiatives, the organization hopes to empower young people with the skills and confidence necessary to navigate their futures.
The grand opening event will feature tours of the facility, allowing attendees to witness firsthand the resources and opportunities that will be available to the community. With strong backing from local partners and donors, this initiative is poised to make a lasting impact.
