Embraer Expands Global Reach with KC-390 and Super Tucano Sales

Embraer has announced that Uzbekistan and the Philippines will be the latest customers for its KC-390 airlifter and A-29 Super Tucano light attack aircraft, respectively. This significant development was revealed during the Singapore Airshow, marking Uzbekistan’s entry into the growing community of global KC-390 operators. The Philippines will receive a second batch of six Super Tucanos, increasing its total number of aircraft to twelve.

Details of the Acquisition

Bosco da Costa Jr., President and CEO of Embraer Defense and Security, emphasized the company’s commitment to supporting the needs of air forces in the Asia-Pacific region. “This is a clear demonstration that Embraer Defense and Security is ready for the future,” he stated during the event.

While the exact number of KC-390s destined for Uzbekistan remains undisclosed, Embraer previously indicated that an “undisclosed customer” had ordered two aircraft in December 2024. The first KC-390 for Uzbekistan is scheduled for delivery later this year. The Uzbek Air Force plans to utilize the aircraft primarily for transport and humanitarian missions, significantly enhancing its operational capabilities.

Similarly, the Philippines’ order for six Super Tucanos was first announced in December 2024 to an undisclosed customer. This acquisition aligns with the country’s efforts to bolster its defense capabilities and modernize its air force.

Global Impact of the KC-390

The KC-390 has garnered considerable interest since its launch, securing 47 orders from nine countries since 2014. The aircraft’s versatility and efficiency have led to additional interest from other nations, including South Korea, which ordered three units in 2023 to enhance the airlift capabilities of the Republic of Korea Air Force (ROKAF).

Currently, the first KC-390 for the ROKAF is undergoing final assembly in Brazil after leaving Embraer’s production line in December 2024. Following assembly, the aircraft will proceed to flight testing and undergo the integration of systems tailored to ROKAF requirements, with delivery expected later this year.

As Embraer expands its presence in the international defense market, the addition of Uzbekistan and the Philippines as customers signifies a growing demand for advanced military aviation solutions. This trend highlights the increasing importance of modern airlift and attack capabilities in global defense strategies.
