Capricorn Group has introduced the second prototype of its 01 Zagato hypercar during a presentation at the Salon Rétromobile in Paris. This unveiling marks a significant step in the development of this high-performance vehicle, which aims to captivate automotive enthusiasts with its unique features and design.
The 01 Zagato is set to be a limited edition, with only 19 units planned for production, each priced at €2.95 million (approximately US$3.5 million). The company anticipates the completion of development with a third prototype expected soon, which will undergo thorough testing prior to its anticipated production start in 2026.
Performance and Design Features
Capricorn’s CEO, Robertino Wild, emphasized the model’s focus on a purist driving experience. The 01 Zagato features a mid-engine layout, rear-wheel drive, and a manual transmission, which the company claims will deliver a “pure, immersive, analog driving experience.”
Under the sleek bodywork designed by Zagato, the hypercar boasts a 5.2-liter supercharged V8 engine generating 900 PS (approximately 888 hp or 662 kW) and coupled with a five-speed manual transmission. This powerful engine produces 1,000 Nm (about 738 lb-ft) of torque and can rev up to 9,000 rpm. Capricorn claims that the 01 Zagato can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (0 to 62 mph) in under three seconds, with a top speed reaching 360 km/h (approximately 224 mph).
Construction and Market Availability
The structural integrity of the 01 Zagato is reinforced by an all-carbon-fiber monocoque and chassis, inspired by LMP1 race cars. The suspension system employs a Bilstein EVO R pushrod setup with double wishbones, designed for optimal weight savings and performance.
While the vehicle will not be homologated for the United States, European market approval is expected to include countries such as the UK, Switzerland, Japan, Mexico, Canada, and various nations in the Middle East. The sales process for the 01 Zagato will be managed exclusively by the Louyet Group.
With the introduction of the 01 Zagato, Capricorn Group is making a notable transition from its traditional role as a lightweighting supplier to a contender in the hypercar segment. The project exemplifies the company’s ambition to redefine luxury and performance in the automotive industry.
