Leica has introduced the new LOBA Women Grant, aimed at enhancing support for female photographers around the globe. The application process for this initiative will commence on February 11, 2026, and will remain open until March 15, 2026. This grant will now be part of the prestigious Leica Oskar Barnack Award competition, which includes the established Main and Newcomer categories.
The LOBA Women Grant represents a significant opportunity for female photographers, as it includes an endowment of 10,000 euros (approximately $12,000) along with a Leica Q camera and comprehensive support during the project implementation phase. The goal of the grant is to assist women photographers over the age of 21 in completing their projects by the time of the next Leica Oskar Barnack Awards.
The projects may focus on any theme, but the award committee emphasizes that successful entries should explore the dynamic relationship between people and their environment, addressing social, cultural, or ecological issues. The committee’s aim is to highlight work that presents “hopeful perspectives” and inspires positive changes.
Karin Rehn-Kaufmann, the Art Director and General Representative of Leica Galleries International, noted the importance of encouraging female photographers to submit projects that not only tackle societal challenges but also illuminate solutions. “Series that encourage and illuminate positive changes are an important part of the discourse and are very welcome,” she stated.
The recipients of the LOBA Women Grant will have their work showcased at the Leica Oskar Barnack Award exhibition, which will be inaugurated at Leica’s headquarters in Wetzlar, Germany, before touring various Leica Galleries and photography festivals worldwide.
This grant builds upon Leica’s commitment to promoting female talent in photography, following the launch of the Leica Women Photo Award in 2019. Since then, the initiative has expanded to include participants from regions such as the United States, Canada, Mexico, and the United Kingdom, demonstrating Leica’s dedication to fostering a more inclusive photographic community.
With the introduction of the LOBA Women Grant, Leica aims to empower female photographers to pursue their creative ambitions and contribute unique perspectives to the world of photography. As the submission period approaches, many are eager to see the innovative projects that will emerge from this initiative.
