Community Mourns the Loss of Ann Ghering Flynn, 1946-2025

Ann Ghering Flynn, a beloved figure in her community, passed away peacefully on Christmas Eve, December 24, 2025, at the age of 79. Born in Butler, Pennsylvania, to the late Leonard and Jenny Lind Ghering, Flynn’s life was marked by her deep faith, commitment to service, and vibrant personality.

Flynn earned her undergraduate degree from Brown University and went on to obtain a master’s degree in social work from the University of Pennsylvania. After her marriage, she and her family settled in South Pasadena, California, where she became an integral part of the community.

A Life of Service and Community Engagement

Throughout her life, Flynn was known for her active involvement in various organizations. She played a significant role in Holy Family Church and was a past president of the Pasadena Christ Child Society. Her leadership was characterized by a genuine dedication to helping others, and she worked tirelessly to make a positive impact in her community.

In addition to her service work, Flynn was passionate about games, particularly bridge and Scrabble. Her competitive spirit and sharp mind made her a formidable player, and she approached each game with both skill and joy. Friends and family fondly remember her as a lively opponent who brought enthusiasm to every match.

Flynn also showcased her business acumen through a successful home-based giftware business. This venture became a cherished resource for the community as she sourced unique items during her legendary buying trips to Italy. Among her most sought-after finds were the exquisite Della Robbia ceramics, which can still be found in homes and parishes across the region.

A Cherished Family Member and Friend

Above all, Flynn was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Her home was a gathering place for family, filled with warmth and grace. She is survived by her husband, John Flynn; her son, Tim (spouse: Clare); her daughter, Jennifer (spouse: Matt Case); and her grandchildren, Trevor and Garrett Flynn; Layla and Charlotte Case.

Following a long journey with dementia, Flynn’s family takes comfort in knowing she is now at peace. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on January 23, 2026, at Holy Family Church, located at 1501 Fremont Avenue, South Pasadena.
